Skiing from here

We only publish what does not change between seasons. Prices, timetables and opening hours are with the operator.
Villa Rudolf in winter — a snowy garden and a cleared path to the house
1.9 km from the house

A ski area right in Svoboda nad Úpou

The nearest slopes are not "somewhere up in the mountains" — they are in the same small town as the house. Five minutes by car, under half an hour on foot. It is the smallest area in the resort, and that is exactly why it suits children and first-timers while the rest of the group heads for the big slopes.

  • 3blue (easy) runs, each about 350 m
  • 3lifts — there is no cable car here
  • ≈ 5 minby car from the house — 1.9 km by road

The area has a ski school, an equipment rental and a magic carpet for children.

Honestly: this is the lowest-lying area in the resort (roughly 530–600 m), so it depends entirely on snow and snowmaking and its season tends to be shorter than higher up. Before you build a whole stay around it, check that it is running.

One ski pass, several areas

The house sits in the SkiResort ČERNÁ HORA – PEC area, where, according to the operator, a single ski pass covers several ski areas. Driving times from Svoboda nad Úpou:

  • Janské Lázně / Černá hora ≈ 4 km≈ 10 min the largest area in the resort
  • Velká Úpa ≈ 10 km≈ 15 min children's park at the bottom lift station
  • Černý Důl ≈ 10–12 km≈ 15–30 min a mountain crossing over a saddle — winding road, allow extra time
  • Pec pod Sněžkou ≈ 13 km≈ 20 min the second largest area, runs of every grade
  • Malá Úpa ≈ 19 km≈ 25–30 min run by a different company — check that your pass is valid

The areas are not linked by pistes

Do not expect one connected ski area. The only skiing link is the SkiTour from Černá hora to Pec — it works in one direction only and on two of its four sections a snowcat tows you; you come back by ski bus. Between the other areas you drive or take the ski bus; what joins them is the shared pass.

You can ski without a car

The SkiResort trunk ski bus stops right in Svoboda nad Úpou — among others Maršov II, Maršov I, Sokolovna, the bus station and Hotel PROM. The number of lines and the terms of carriage change from season to season, so check them with the operator.

Night skiing

In season it runs on floodlit pistes; the longest of them is Protěž on Černá hora — 1.6 km according to the operator. The exact days and times change, so look for the current schedule at the operator.

When nobody is skiing

In a larger group somebody always skips the skiing — and out of seven nights, four or five are realistically ski days. This is the rest of the programme.

  • Aquacentrum Janské Lázněindoor pool, walking distance
  • Cross-country trailstrailheads by Černá hora, ≈ 4 km by car
  • Harrachov glassworksa tour in the warm, ≈ 50 min by car
  • Stachelberg fortressunderground fortifications near Trutnov
  • Karpacz water park (PL)large indoor water park, ≈ 45 min by car
